Route suggestion??
I dont really know all the good roads to ride. But I have a destination in mind. I'd like to go down to Skamania Lodge. Right by the Cascade locks. Anyone have a good route? Then maybe up to Seattle to pick up my track suit.

I'd do this route to the Lodge. Can't remember exactly where the Lodge is, but you get the idea. Keep a wary eye on the letter carriers around Goldendale, they're out ta get ya!

I agree - great route and my personal favorite way to get to and from Portland. Unless you have another extra hour and you can swing up to trout lake on the cutoff between Goldendale before Klickitat and back down to SR14 a few miles after - but then you miss that Klickitat river valley run. That there's some fun.

When are you going?

This thread shows several of the reasons you want to go this way.

The road itself is another.

that windy ridge road is a blast, right up by mount st helens into randle. there are some portions where you'll wish you were on a multistrada, broken up asphalt, but its perfectly rideable. watch for the pink spraypaint on the road indicating spots where the road has sunk.

I agree with your comments except that his route isn't really the Windy Ridge route. Windy Ridge is nf-99 and you need to go to higher mag near your dot on nf-25 next to Mt St Helens National Monument to see it. If you have the time, take nf-99 (Windy Ridge) because it really is great and the pavement is great. Near the end, watch for gravel because the mountain crumbles a bit onto the road.

I was up there last Friday and Windy Ridge Road is still mostly closed: http://blog.oregonlive.com/terryrich...ount_st_h.html

As far as the route you posted, the road is very good until you get to FS25, which is patched & pretty rough in places, but doable.

Wow, thanks for the info on Windy Ridge! A little bit bigger pot holes than I remember.

Thanks, Jim.
