If you are in eastern WA someone who open carries is not a big deal. I can assure you that if you just walked and walked alone into pikeplace market and didnt do anything to draw attention to you, seattle PD would be all over you. Look up in the newspaper about the port of seattle PD incident a few days ago. It is all based on the "norm" and someone in seattle with a gun on their hip in not the norm. Feel free to test it or ask another officer.

Right, but they can't arrest you or confiscate the weapon assuming you're legally carrying it. Legally you have complete protection under the law, at best they can ask you to conceal it (if you don't have a permit you can't), but you can simply decline, since there is no requirement for you to do so.

In western Washington an open carry when you're walking around in public is just asking for trouble. I usually open carry when in my vehicle by placing my pistol on top of the center console. When people look in the windows they either look scared or ask me if I'm a cop. If I were to open carry while walking around I'm sure I'd be accosted by police officers every 10 minutes.
