If you buy your bike back directly from insurance (after its been written off), are you required have it pass a roadworthiness inspection at DOT/elsewhere? Im pretty sure you didnt have to in TX. Thanks in advance. |

A salvage title implies not being roadworthy. Rebuilt is after it has been inspected by WSP, and thus issued a "rebuilt" title. No different, you just can't sell your bike for as much, and insurance will only cover a percentage of the similar value of a clean title machine if you were to get in another accident. |

If you dont - no. you guys are saying WSP - Washington State Police. Surely this would be done by WSDOT right? Next question, for those that have done it. Is it tough to get through inspection here? I need to know how much effort it could be to get aftermarket lighting passed. Ive seem some pretty dodgy setups getting around town, but they could have been done in a situation not requiring an inspection - ie not totalled through insurance. |

What if, say, you were to buy secondhand parts from others' parted out bikes to rebuild it - you're not likely to get official receipts from those purchases. So long as its roadworthy, it shouldnt be a problem. Just sounds a little retarded wrt receipts. Also, if the receipts are to prove repairs have been done - how are they to know the extent of the original damage? Is there some record of the estimate filed somewhere? (doubt it). I could see there being issues if you rocked up with a single receipt - for plastics - and them calling bullshit on you, even though that may have been all that was necessary to get it back to roadworthy condition. Ive bought cars back from ins totals and all in all it was pretty simple just try and make sure everything works. worked for me |

| Streetfighter ![]() Joined: Mar 2008 From: Seattle, WA | Bumping this thread for anyone that ends up in my position: You do not have to get an inspection if you keep your bike (the requirements have recently been changed) Mine cost me 5 minutes at a local DOL and $19 to get changed from "salvage" to "rebuilt". If you sell it as salvage, the new owner is required to get an inspection done to transistion to a street-legal rebuilt title. |
