Saturday 7-26 leaving bucks at 11am
Plan to LEAVE the bucks at 11am. (in other words, start bike at 11, with kick stand up and rolling before 11:01... ROB *that would be the 185th and evergreen starbucks.

We will NOT leave anyone behind (on the ride - if you are late getting to starbucks, head to skyline and wait, you may catch us...).

Starting an informal discussion on ideas about riding the twisties at 10:30 for those that would enjoy thinking about some basic safety fundamentals before we ride some twisty roads that have tight, long turns... decreasing radius turns... gravel... deer... skunks... horse poo... squirrels... you get the idea. Depending on response to this thread, maybe even meet a little earlier.

planned route: (5 hours...EXACTELY?)

Please PM me if you would like to hook up at 10:00 or 10:30 to talk through some of the important basics of survival on these roads... please note all you experts - i'm talkin' survival, not rip and tear stuff.

can't wait - gonna be a GREAT ride!

not a big fan of the strait roads in some places... those kinda kill me :( and also you havent mentioned anything about stopping for food lol. at some point people will want to stop for food and drinks. hydration is your friend

I wont commit to anything yet... still trying to figure out whats going on this weekend. but it does sound tempting

edit: k nevermind. I cant make it... have an appointment at 1:45 to get my hair cut lol

what do ya know the 26th is a Saturday. I'll see if I can swing it. (I wish i was smart enough to work that paper calander on my desk ) My wife and kids have been gone all week at summer camp and are coming back on Friday afternoon. It might be bad form to head out for 5 hours on a ride. I'll post up if i can make it.

couple things...

food - yes. (clatskanine)

gas - yes. (couple times probably)

straight road - HELL NO! the worst part of this ride for me is that itty bitty stretch of 30 into St. Helens... and the relatively straight part of 47 back to Vernonia... I try to cruise about 60-75 through there to keep off the flat part of the tires...

this route is actually pretty full of twisties... a few folks have ridden it with me and can vouch.

a nestucca-53 run is coming soon!

This is from a winter sport... but applies: "There's no such thing as friends on powder days!" - of course, gotta change powder to 'sunny, warm, well paved road'!!!

quick update: there have been a couple folks that would like to get together a little before the ride to chat about the route and any other 'safety margins' that come up.

I'll be at the bux at 10 am...

Just talked to the wife, she told me if she can go out with her friends tonight while I watch the kids, I can ride all day tomorrow. I'll meet at bucks at 1000, to get a little aquainted with everyone since I haven't really met any of you yet. I will have to cut out at Clatskanie though because I have a 12 hour watch at 8 pm so I'll need to get a little bit of rest before hand.

Sounds like a great ride. I'm a bit new to the riding scene, what kind of pace are you going to be setting?

I might be able to make it. It depends on if I get up early enough to head over there.

I'm up pretty late paying some bills, but if the roads are dry in the morning, I'm up for it. Ron and I will have to go about 60 miles on Hwy 26 just to get to the start at 185th, and 26 is no fun when it's wet and you're following cages and log trucks. I heard there was an 80% chance of rain tomorrow, so I'm praying the weather liars are wrong. I'd like to meet and ride with you guys. John
