Aug 23rd is a great date, but I will probably be at SBNW in Stevenson. Dunno if that's a good venue for honing skills, never been to it before. Are there any of the Mentors attending this event that might want to hook up there?

Hi anyone on the North side of the Columbia interested in being a Mentor to my Ment-ee? Been riding for 4 years (rode dirt bikes a bit as a kid, learned to ride a street bike (86' 500 Interceptor) when i was 18 in the late eighties, then started riding again when gas hit 2.50 a gallon... the good ol' days.

Saturdays are good for me and Mondays are my day off. Sundays are kinda out for me :-)

Could use some training...
had a few miles in my 20s... 30 or 40K miles- But that was awhile ago. I am free in blocks of time (I work two weeks on two weeks off- the next block is the 21st of this month.) I have put a hundred miles on he new bike, but between getting the bike in shape (it was turned into what I called a "poor man's Goldwing: and my friend called "a bad accident with a washing machine") and other commitments it is hard to find the time to get the kind of hard to get the kind of time on the bike I would like to have before my skill test on the 26th! So if anyone wants to spend some time with me from the 22-25th that would be great.

Also if anyone wants to bike down to Corvallis with me for my test (the closest one I could find to Portland) the morning of the 26th- Ill buy your gas and lunch.

Let me add here that I am no speed-demon, being far to old and having witnessed enough accidents to have my mortality affirmed- I am interested in getting better at smooth, graceful, safe biking. Any help would be more than appreciated.

Thanks

I've updated the Coaching/Coached list as encouragement to contact each other prior to Saturday's ride. I've also begun another list of the match-ups and will add to it if you let me know when you've established a match-up.

I see there are a few more coached than coaches. So, if any coach on the list is willing to take on more than one trainee, let me know and I'll indicate it.

I could probably teach someone a thing or two, like "The thingy on the left that you pull is your brake, the one on the right, your clutch...or was it the other way around?"

Good one Drazen. Some of us more "elderly" riders do remember different foot controls. My Japanese street bike was set up like the bikes of today but my English and Spanish track bikes shifted on the right side and braked on the left. Kind of confusing switching back and forth!

At ~T's suggestion, and to get you all to start matching up, I'm posting a photo of one of our better coaches. If Polvo2 treats a wayward kitten at the only gas station in Fossil this way, just imagine how gentle he'll be with you!

Excellent choice. Brian will be a good coach for fast or slow riders.

This sounds pretty cool, count me in if it's not to late. Started off on dirtbikes as a teen and riding a streetbike for a couple of months. I live right off of I-5 and the Multnomah exit, pretty close to Barbur also. Down to ride anytime, as much as possible before classes start, so hit me up. Do you have to match up with a mentor for this or can you just go for the ride? (SW PDX, Sport, Newb-Intermediate?, Ride any time). Thanks.
