Great Group - Great Ride
Well, it was a pretty impressive show for an impromptu Wednesday night group ride in Salem. Eight riders and not a bad egg in the bunch.

We left Circle K at 6:30 sharp and cruised east out highway 22 to the Silver Falls exit where we headed north at an enthusiastic pace. As we turned onto the Cascade Highway and headed toward Silverton the six riders in front leaned forward and opened their throttle. It was an awesome sight as those sleek machines dove from corner to corner like a six-part snake, each rider respecting the other as speeds and lean angles increased. I pushed myself a bit but slowly lost ground on the group as me and a fellow rider took it at our own pace.

We bunched back up as we were slowed by traffic and all eight riders journeyed into Silverton together. We cooled our heals through the city limits and came to an intersection in the middle of the town where we pealed off back towards the falls, first gear exhaust notes causing the locals to turn and stare as if the Wild Ones had just pulled into Hollister.

The up-hill run to the falls was hampered by traffic but we enjoyed some spirited cornering and took advantage of a couple passing opportunities and were soon impressively parked as a group above the north falls where we stopped to stretch our legs and enjoy some camaraderie.

As darkness was falling fast we mounted back up and chased the road down through a beautiful section canopied by trees and emerged into open rolling farm hills that brought challenging switchbacks and elevation changes. Having stretched out we regrouped back at the Cascade Highway, one rider splitting off to head home with the rest of us riding in tight formation to dinner – a military squadron marching to the mess hall.

Ixipata restaurant in Stayton received us warmly and served up great food. We chatted about the ride and a myriad of topics and broke the party up around nine. I took off for the cruise back into Salem with my girlfriend Julia following, satisfied that we all kept it two wheels down and enjoying the cool night air which reminding me that full leathers don’t always need to be uncomfortably warm.

A great time with a good group of riders. Really a wonderful way to spend a Wednesday evening. Hope it happens again soon. I’ll see you guys next week – in the mean time let’s all consider what new route we’ll next ride . . .

Hope to see you again. And the deal is that you have to help me pick up my bike! That VFR is heavy - especially when tilted down-hill!

Next time stick around for dinner.

I'm gonna try to make this one - where do we meet? I read the Circle K on 12th - that still it? Is that like 12th St. south of Mission? What time again? Are you getting the feeling I am helpless? Will someone start my bike for me? Is it one down and five up? I forget things.......where can I get self cancelling turn signals?

So there was a 4 lane one way street with someone in front of us in the 1st lane and the guy in the 3rd lane decided to turn left right into the car. Some guy from Washington. I think he thought it was a two way street and the lane we were in and the one next to us was going the other direction in his head. So he didn't look to his side for cars just infront and since there weren't any he went and slammed the car in front of us. What a dumba$$. So we stopped and waited for popo, which took his time by the way. Met another rider and told him about the forums, though. So, something good came of it.

Thank You Matt and glad to see you got home without getting attacked by another coyote (you might not have seen it).

Ya that guy was a dumba$$. I was thinking "What's that guy thinking?" but he wasn't thinking......when Leo finally showed up he turned out to be a nice guy. But now they have me down in their book as a witness. And as we were leaving my cuz yells out "See you at the bar!" lol

All you guys that didn't go missed out - Matt bought!! Thanks again Matt.

Coonrod and I loved that night riding too! The same old road is all new in the dark.

No more rides for me for a while. Broke my ankle and tore my achilles riding my dirt bike on Saturday. Funny how I've forgotten how badly it hurts! Have to get in to a orthopedic surgeon tomorrow to see how bad it is. And if you have to go to an ER, Silverton Hospital treats you good. Anyway, I'm gonna be laid up a while....

Rider Down & Milk is for Keyboards
Mike - very sorry to hear about your ankle. As you know, Julia has been on the mend since hitting a deer (and having her bike burn) in Hells Canyon. Crutches are hell, my friend. Get well soon. And let me know if you need a good surgeon.

As to the rest of you . . . Wednesday (9/24/07) looks to be lining up as a great day for riding, milk in the keyboard or not!

We're running short on these opportunities - let's make this a priority. I have a few ideas for the ride. Who all is in - let's get a count.

Derek
