Did you see the pics of me Hawnduh took? I could be BigJ too - or maybe II? :D

My weather is showing partly cloudy Wed. .....as usual I won't go in the rain AND dark. I do like the dark though......makes new corners out of old ones.

Soon
Gentlemen (and the occasional Lady)

I hope all of you are heartily enjoying these recent beautiful, clear days of autumn. We’re blessed with perfect riding weather and dry roads, warm sun in the day and a bright moon in the night, and always, always another corner calling to us from the future, pulling us towards our destiny.

I passed many an October hour dreaming of riding while completing my most recent community service obligation and now, having paid my debt to society, am awaiting November and the return of my driver’s license. One week from tomorrow I’ll be joining you all again on two wheels. If we don’t see sunshine and dry roads till spring my punishment will have proven to be truly Draconian. But, as I often say, Nil Desperandum – Never Despair.

Soon, my Brothers. Soon.

Well if anyone goes out in the warm afternoon and you plan to stay out after the sun goes down it gets really cold really fast here in the valley. I have lived here for almost 8 yrs. (Aloha for 25 before that) and it surprised me. It must be the high humidity. Of course, I have shunned darkness as evil up til these huge headlights.

Hoping for a Wednesday ride.

Roll Call - Wednesday Night November 7, 2007
Hail Good Fellows Well Met!

With the approval of the DMV, and kind cooperation of judges from two Oregon counties, I hope to see some of you Wednesday night! It’s been a long month since I’ve ridden and I’m excited about putting two wheels down and twisting the wrist.

Shall we start to sound roll-call? Who plans on joining this merry band? What say you good men?

Well? It's Tuesday - are you back in the saddle again D? Looking forward to a ride tomorrow. Looks like the weather will cooperate too.

I'm done.....I think
Agent and I toodled around and went and had pizza with Mosser and Derek's fiance!- HUGE rock, beautiful ring - and called it a night. Fun, but weighing the risk of the miserable fog it wasn't worth taking the scooter. Except for the pretty little forked horn in the middle of Viewcrest on the way home.

jim - waiting for P.D.T. and more daylight.

Sorry I missed another one. Hopefully my ankle will be back in riding shape in a couple more weeks. That is if I can keep my mother in law from setting any more booby traps in which I re-injure my ankle. (Long story.) At least my crutches are history! Hope ya'll had fun last night.

I Ride: My Own Line
Sorry to report back in such a tardy manner. Wednesday the 7th of November was an abbreviated ride mostly due to low lying clouds (read FOG). Jim – a hearty soul if I’ve ever met one - still showed for the ride and, as he already stated, we went for a short ride and then met Matt for pizza. Really nice to be on two wheels again and a special treat to see Jim and Matt, as they’re always good company.

I hope some of you got to ride this weekend. I put in some miles Saturday and finished back here in Salem with a huge, lurid wheelie – brought up smoothly, ridden out through 1st gear nicely and brought down gently – quite impressive if that is what I had originally planned on doing! Many of you know I’m a novice rider so my first wheelie was pretty exciting. Sounds like a thread in the making:

I was 11 and went to work with my Dad. He used to work for a dairy. Bosses son let me ride his Honda 80 (CR I think). Just figuring out how to shift and held clutch in too long...front wheel went up, got scared so I pulled back, causing me to roll my wrist more, causing the bike to go faster, causing me to get more scared...

I fell off, bike ended up stopping just short of falling in an 8 foot canal. Think I had to change my shorts! But I was doing two foot jumps by the end of the day!

First wheelie on my SV...

Rode bike to work and was bragging to a co-worker (Who rides a Duc) about how good my dual Yoshis sounded. Rode it around the block and winded it out to 25 MPH. Rolled off and he yelled it sounded good so I rolled it back on..Front wheel came up!

Wasn't intentional but it taught me how torquey V-twins are!

Thanks for the kind words - ditto to you.

I won't tell you about my first wheelie but my most memorable. I got pretty good at them in the '60s and early '70s. On August 10, 1971, I was on my DT1 showing off for the neighbor kids doing block long wheelies. I decided enough was enough, went to put the scooter away, and as I popped the front wheel up over the curb I lost the back wheel. Down she went, and I hit my head on the curb (I was really a good rider: I didn't need no steenking helmet). I fractured my skull, in and out of consciousness for 4 days, ruptured eardrum, severe concussion. 14 days in the hospital, 11 in intensive care, IVs for 10 days, lost 28 pounds. Still have almost no sense of taste or smell and a ringing in my ear. For some reason I have not had the desire to do wheelies any more. I did them during my following off road days when I had to but not to just show off and not on my shiny new Fizzy.

If you dont mind my chiming in.. My first wheelie was on a dirt bike (I had an old kawasaki 90) I was about 6 or 7 and trying so hard to follow my dad on his husqvarna.. I saw him go by and I slammed the gas and immediately popped the clutc
