Tonight they closed hwy 169 up in maple valley. A black sport bike (looks like a ninja 1000 of some kind) got into it with one if those tiny smart car. Bike was laying 180 on the left turn lane into the Fred Meyer there if any is familiar with it. Road got one of those center median there. Not sure what happen but the police were measuring the scene with a laser. Do they do this in every bike accident? No skid mark from what I can see of the mini. The mini looks undamaged, bike looks totaled. Hope rider is OK.
From my experience in the legal field, the only time law enforcement is out measuring is if someone is either seriously hurt or killed. Another way to look at it is if there are likely going to be criminal or civil charges filed, they do a full and thorough investigation.
There is a renewed push to improve the investigation of motorcycle crashes by WSP, being driven by the riding advocacy community, DOL, and Washington Traffic Safety commission. Better data makes for better tailoring of training policies and community outreach for proactive measures.
