This is beyond fantastic, outstanding work and effort as I can see this is going to be an excellent resource for everyone!

  4. At present time, if people will copy the road as it's listed above and post thier suggestions (like ratings or a new road), questions or comments, I will be happy to add them.

I will be putting every effort into this, but at the same time I don't want to be biased in adding only my comments or ratings.

Also on the drawing board is making the above routes downloadable for the GPS cruisers, but that is at a low priority for now.

  5. So, what rating scale do you want to use?

    5 stars? 10 stars?

What about other roads in western OR you don't have listed?

Also, pavement quality could be added, yes?

  6. I figure a 5-star system would be good.

If you don't see a road listed in that particular region, post it or PM it to me, and I'll put it in the above list in alpha order.

Road quality is a tough one, since that can change frequently throughout a year, and can be very subjective. But once I am able to get all states and regions live, then I am going to start adding the details to them, and can include generic road condition.

  7. OMG, I don't know where to start. I will try to start at the beginning then.

Points of interest: Connects to Canaan/Meissner Road which gets :thumblef::thumblef::thumblef::thumblef::thumblef: in my opinion. Apiary is mostly gentle sweepers, Canaan/Meissner has it all and non-stop.

  12. Does anyone have a pic of what the 3 miles of what was called "Improved Gravel Road" on another site looks like? I'll be riding my '76 RD400C on this road and more, starting from crossing to OR30 @ Longview. I'm not that concerned about the gravel road as long as it isn't 3/4 minus or larger and deeper than most, because the little Yamaha is fairly light and nimble enough to handle a dirt/partly or not too deep gravel road, I've done it before.

Here's the complete route I'm planning (except on to Pacific City for lunch):

    http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=C...o6e-CmR6U4AP87qVDFZjmZcXP8qYQ&mra=ls&t=m&z=11

But it still would be nice to get a lock how knarley or even decent it is to be better prepared.

Thanks in advance to anyone who has a pic or firsthand recent report!

  13. I probably have a pic somewhere but the thing is that they put new gravel on that chunk. I don't know how often but when it's new it's really hard to ride through it because it's all loose. Then of course, once it's pressed down by tires, it's no big deal. I have no idea which condition it is currently, haven't been there this season. But I know a few peeps from Portland/Vancouver have been through there already, they should chime in. If not, post a thread with the question in the Portland section.

  14. Oh, it's new all right. After a false start last Monday (minor RD400 breakdown since fixed) I tried this route yesterday...it TOTALLY SUCKED.

The gravel is fairly large, 1.5-2" minus, and totally unpacked, it must've been days ago at best because there were virtually NO tire tracks or compacted areas. Plus, most of the rest of the road is in pretty hideous shape, either due to being totally dilapidated and containing various amounts of gravel, or where the pavement was half-decent there were numerous corners strewn with varying amounts of gravel usually in the corner's apexes. Not a road to relax and have stress-free fun on. With crap roads like these (and Bible Creek and the rest to Willamina weren't any better, perhaps worse) it's no wonder I'd rather stay in Washington.

What a waste of time and gas....the only decent roads on this entire route of too much slabbing and not enough decent paved twisties were the upper part of 47 past Vernonia, and Apiary Road, which was smooth as glass, zero gravel and just enough corners and sweepers to be interesting, with zero traffic.

    http://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=V...dVWhA&oq=+Vancouver,+WA&mra=ls&via=18&t=m&z=9

Here is the end of the pavement on Nestucca, and the picture doesn't really show just how bad it was:

  15. Started getting the road conditions updated as the reports start coming in.

  16. Hmm, I could have told you that about some of those roads. Apiary connects to Meissner/Canaan which are all totally awesome. You just happened to pick the roads that worsened recently.

Brian, how are you going to keep the road conditions updated in your ratings? That stuff changes seasonally. This Nestucca road will be totally fine in a couple of months ...

Maybe just include a date of the most recent road condition report...people can make some decent assumptions based on how recent the report is.

  18. Hwy 47 and Apiary are two of my favorites. I rode Apiary a few days ago and it was in perfect condition. Hwy 47 has a lot more tight corners, but it's usually got some log truck debris for a few months in the spring. It should be cleaner by July from what I've seen.

I believe this old video was filmed on Hwy 47. It's one of my favorites on Youtube... http://youtu.be/MJheuVMVvyo
