Help me find Crashy McDoucheburger

Discussion in 'Portland Region' started by 1badhusky, Oct 7, 2012.

  1. Have you seen this car? [IMG]

It's the one that crashed into my car last night and broke my mirror on NE Killingsworth. It'll be about a $400 repair for me. :rant

Of course they didn't leave a note. The Sentra will be missing it's passenger side mirror. I know this because I have it in my living room. Yeah, it ripped their mirror (including the manual mirror adjustment mechanism) right out of their car! I present you with Exhibit A, the incriminating evidence left at the scene of the crime: [IMG]

After doing some internet sleuthing, I'm 99% positive the mirror is from a 2007-2012 Nissan Sentra. I think it's a 2007 because it had a sticker on the inside of the mirror that said "26 11 2007". The color is, I think, Nissan's Red Brick Pearl (I know this color as maroon).

I'd really love to find the owner of this give them their mirror back. :angry7:

So if you see this car - probably in N or NE Portland, please let me know!

If you have other ideas how to find this person, please share. I've posted to my facebook account already.

Here's a chance to take some action against a dangerous and irresponsible driver!

  2. You're an awesome dude. I hope they get their mirror back!

but seriously, this is an interesting enough story that one of the local media might want to pick it up.

  3. Killingsworth is a long street. What cross street was it?

I would take a look around the neighborhood, I've had stuff like this happen and it was usually someone very close by that did it. Only took a day or two of walking/driving around to find them.

Another option is to camp out on the street around the time you think it happened. If they are a commuter, you may just see them rolling by.
  4. Step 1: Go find an undamaged mirror in that color at a junkyard.

Step 2: Post on Craigslist for a cheap price.

    Step 3: Profit.

  5. Good luck man! Hope you can return the mirror to them. I had someone back in my girlfriend's parents suburban they let us take to college. They did $1300 worth of damage. They left bits of their taillight in the ground and paint on our door. It took me 7 months to find the driver, but once I did the local LEOs gave her an $800 ticket for hit and run, and although I had to return the suburban damaged to my girlfriends parents, there was a nice insurance check to go with it.

Hope this works out for you too. Just be patient in finding them.

Another thought, wonder if you were to contact the local dealers, parts departments and see if they would give you a heads up if someone comes in looking to order a mirror; Same with the auto recyclers? PS I like Mulletman's idea about posting one on CL. Although you could just say you had one and see who contacts you.
  7. Look at the mirror closer, Nissan may have put a VIN number on it.
  8. This
  9. This as well. You could also go to the DMV and request info on any 2007 nissan sentra in that color. depending on how many hits you get, you might be able to pay the $13 fee per address and go door to door.
  10. If manufactured in November of 2007 it's probably a 2008 model.
  11. One thing I noticed, and it could just be the angle of the picture, but the nissans mirror in the pic looks like the mirror gets skinnier as it goes out, where the one you looks to be the same thickness across the mirror.

Like I said, could just be the angle I the pics.
  12. You could at least call the Nissan dealer and see if there are any markings or serial numbers on the mirror that can trace back to the car, it's not likely but worth a try.
  13. what type of info can you request? I thought the DMV info was pretty locked down.

Thanks for the ideas guys. I'm planning to talk to Nissan dealerships today. Not sure it'll help much - guessing ratting out their own customers won't be a top priority of theirs.
  14. I ASSUME you filed a police hit and run report, right?

Most repair shops and dealerships will not talk to you but they will talk to the cops. At least with a police report if a dealer or repair shop has the car in for repair of there damage they could find them that way.

    Good luck.
  15. Hmmm... you're right. Wasn't aware of that law for this state:

However, you could easily track down the number of cars that fit the description via the dmv and take that info to the police. Hopefully you filled out a police report?
  16. Seriously. Did you file an accident report or call the police? When you show up at this clowns house the first thing he/she is going to do is call the cops, and you will be the bad guy after that happens.

  19. File a police report for hit and run. Once you have the report stop by a/few nissan parts dept's and see if any bodyshops have ordered one (maybe they have ins and turned it in to there own) the other thing is if you have the time or are just simply pissed enough go monitor the street a few times around rhe same time of day, ppl usually use the same routs etc, humans are creatures of routine. As far as a $400 fix what are you needing a mirror for? Year/make/mod.
